Ordering custom-colored cabinetry doesn't have to be complicated. Here's exactly what happens between your color spec and the finished product.
Custom-colored cabinetry is one of the most-requested upgrades in residential kitchen projects — and one of the most frequently misunderstood in terms of how the process works and what it costs.
Here's how it works at Dogwood.
Specify by Color Code
We match to Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore colors because they're the two most widely available reference standards in the industry. Your clients can walk into any Sherwin-Williams or Benjamin Moore store, pick a chip, and hand us the color name and code. We do the rest.
No samples to mail, no color approval process, no back-and-forth. Specify your SW number at checkout and we build it. Same 2–4 week lead time as White Shaker.
When you add a custom finish item to your cart, you'll enter the color name and its Sherwin-Williams or Benjamin Moore code. We also accept custom stain specs — contact us with a sample or reference and we'll quote the match.
What "Match" Means
We don't thin SW paint and brush it on. We mix to the SW formula in our specified sheen (default: satin), apply it with a controlled spray system, and cure it before shipping. The finish is durable, consistent, and uniform across every door and box in the order.
Lead Time
Custom finish orders carry the same 2–4 weeks lead time estimate as White Shaker. We don't charge a rush fee for standard custom colors, and we don't require a minimum quantity.
Custom-color orders are made to order and are not returnable, so double-check color names and codes before you check out.
The Upcharge
Custom finish pricing is reflected in our "Custom" column in the price list. The upcharge is flat per unit — not a percentage of order value — so it doesn't scale disproportionately on large orders.
What We Need from You
- SW color name and number
- Sheen preference (satin is default; we also do eggshell and semi-gloss)
- Any notes about matching existing elements
That's it. No samples to mail, no color approval process, no back-and-forth. Specify it at checkout and we build it.
